European Beer Pledge: fostering best practice in addressing alcohol misuse

The Parliament Magazine in association with The Brewers of Europe and the EP Beer Club invites you to a roundtable lunch event on the launch of Europe's brewers Beer Pledge initiative. The Beer Pledge is a voluntary initiative by Europe's brewers to support EU member states in reducing alcohol related harm and is a direct response to Commissioner John Dalli's message at the last Alcohol & Health Forum for its members to take further action. At this meeting, Commissioner Dalli encouraged "joint action across society" and "voluntary cooperation". He also encouraged members to "live up to today's challenges by using today's tools". The Beer pledge seeks to respond to the Commissioner's message.

The event, hosted by Renate Sommer MEP will focus on the following issues which the Beer Pledge seeks to address, including:

• Improving consumer information and knowledge through a range of platforms including new technologies
• Ensuring responsible advertising
• Addressing alcohol misuse in line with the expectations of citizens and EU policymakers
